Angela Hammond was an easy target for a kidnapper.

Blonde, beautiful, and four months pregnant, 20-year-old Angela stood at just 4'11". Her small frame was a sociopath’s dream come true. She would have been easy to grab and easy to control. Her desire to protect her unborn child likely meant she would be willing to do just about anything if it meant preserving her baby’s life.

Making a phone call at a public phone booth was a common everyday occurrence in 1991. It was something people did without a second thought. But for Angela “Angie” Hammond, a simple phone call put her in the cross hairs of a demented man — we have yet to figure out who that man is — who ripped her away from everything she held dear in a split second.

The Line Went Dead

On April 4, 1991, Angie Hammond was on the precipice of full adulthood. The popular mother-to-be worked at a local bank and attended Central Missouri State University. [1]

Just a month earlier, Angie became engaged to Rob Shafer, who was planning to go into the military. The star athlete had recently given her an engagement ring and promised to always take care of her. [2]
