B.T.K.: Husband, Father, Serial Killer
The story of Dennis Rader, a.k.a. “B.T.K.,” is an especially uncomfortable one to tell because it serves as a caustic reminder that the very worst of humanity is often able to blend in with the rest of society and fool everyone around them.
No one would have dreamed that an average husband, father, Scout leader, and devout churchgoer would be capable of giving himself the moniker “Bind, Torture, Kill” and commit some of the most heinous murders law enforcement had ever seen. And no one would have imagined that such an average Joe would be able to hide undetected for decades.
Yet, Dennis Rader was able to kill at will and hide his crimes even as he raised a family and guided his church community because of his unique ability to compartmentalize his actions and separate his insidious hobby from the rest of his life.
The only amusing aspect of B.T.K.’s story is that Dennis Rader fancied himself a criminal mastermind, but as you will soon learn, he was anything but a criminal mastermind. A very foolish and sophomoric mistake eventually landed him behind bars for the rest of his life.
